Willis P. Blackwood, Founder
Willis is a 1972 graduate of Virginia Tech with a BS in Business Administration and also received an MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1979. His background includes working in the real estate department for a national retail chain, Safeway Stores, in the 1970s and then affiliating with S. L. Nusbaum Realty Company and opened their Richmond office in 1981. He formed Blackwood Development Company in 1988.

Willis has been involved in the development of more than 2,000,000 square feet of existing retail space in Richmond and Tidewater, Virginia. Completed developments include Chesterfield Meadows, Laburnum Park, Pocono Crossing, Westpark, Airport Shoppes, Chesterfield Meadows South, Chesterfield Meadows West, Southgate Square, Victory Crossing, Dimmock Square, Promenade Shops, Southshore Shops, NorthCross Center and Courthouse Crossing. His working knowledge includes an extensive background in all phases of development, leasing and management.

Over the years, Willis has been involved in many non-profit organizations. He has been or is on the Board of Directors of The Virginia Tech Foundation, Pamplin School of Business at Virginia Tech, Prevent Blindness Virginia Real Estate Foundation, Center Stage Foundation, Chesterfield Business Council, Metro Chamber of Commerce, Stonehenge Country Club and many others. He was also appointed to the Virginia Public Buildings Commission by Governor Warner in 2005 and reappointed by Governor Kaine in 2007. He is the 2008 Campaign Chair for the Richmond Tocqueville Society of United Way.
